Infrastructure and 5G

We will explore the challenges faced by the infrastructure community and the new challenges that have emerged in recent years.

The protection of infrastructure against various threats (e.g.: natural disasters, terrorist attacks, cyber threats) and the resilience of entities managing the infrastructure are crucial for modern societies. Any disruption of essential services can have cascading effects, potentially resulting in a far-reaching and long-term negative impact on the delivery of services across the internal market. Whatever the type of infrastructure (e.g., factories, power plants, water plants), GNSS and EO support the actors involved in infrastructure management in their effort to increase the safety of operations and productivity, while improving infrastructure resilience and safeguarding the environment.

Aviation and Drones (afternoon session)

The session will bring together aviation and drone ecosystem players to discuss key user requirements, and the latest trends like advanced air mobility or operations at higher altitudes.

We will cover the added value of EGNOS and Galileo differentiators, such as authentication and high accuracy, and the users’ needs to improve the services. The session will also explore EO use cases, and particularly Copernicus data, to support aviation, such as in-flight procedure design, or drone safety assessment. For the first time, the participants will discuss their needs in SATCOM services, and how the future GOVSATCOM and IRIS² can support their operations.

This session is divided into a morning and afternoon session.

Timing and Synchronization

The session will focus on the needs and requirements of telecom, finance, and energy operators by delivering insights related to the market trends and the technology readiness, including the updates on the standardisation of Galileo timing receivers.

The timing capability offered by satellite navigation systems is at the core of most vital infrastructures: telecom networks operation, energy distribution and financial transactions are some examples of areas where GNSS is used for timing and/or synchronisation purposes. GNSS is widely used by the T&S community as it provides accurate, “low cost” and widely available timing services allowing time, phase, and frequency network synchronisation.

Tourism and Cultural Heritage

EU Space data enables the development of tools that support strategic decision-making based on environmental monitoring data and climate change forecasts, to mitigate climate risks and address the increasing environmental challenges of the tourism and cultural heritage industry.

One of the topics to be discussed concerns digitalization. Thanks to groundbreaking developments in 3D rendering techniques, companies are increasingly using EGNSS-powered drones and photogrammetry cameras to create detailed digital copies of landmarks and implement them in new applications. In addition to preservation purposes, digitized assets can be used for the development of XR applications that offer immersive experiences for tourists.

Raw Materials

We will discuss how the EU Space Programme, through Copernicus, can support the raw materials sector in meeting these needs and overcoming market barriers.

The monitoring and management of raw materials through EO services are crucial for sustainable development and economic stability in modern societies. The sector significantly impacts various industries, and efficient resource management is essential for maintaining vital economic activities within the internal market of an increasingly interconnected European economy.

The focus will be on topics like environmental impact monitoring for mines and mining site exploration, planning, and monitoring.

Health and Wellbeing

The session will look into the most recent applications in the health tech market, where EO is seen as a valuable addition to enhancing the development of patient-centric solutions. We will address some of the bottleneck challenges faced by entrepreneurs in the pharmaceuticals and health tech sector, such as costs saving, adding value to existing products, and satisfying the end users’ demand for more personalized solutions. Specific use cases will be presented, illustrating how EO is applied in the solutions for respiratory, cardiovascular and cancer diseases.

The second part of the session will briefly look into the future of regulatory requirements, such as environmental risk assessment requirement for biopharma manufacturers. We will discuss how EO technologies can assist in evaluating the amounts of listed chemicals entering water, soil, and/or air in the form of emissions.

Lastly, the session will highlight emerging opportunities for startups in preventive healthcare, including a discussion on new applications in mental health and lifestyle areas.
